Operating a Motorcycle in Ohio
In order to operate a motorcycle in the state of Ohio you must:
- Meet the state’s minimum age requirement
- Obtain an Ohio motorcycle license or endorsement (in some instances you may need to obtain a learner’s permit)
- Register your motorcycle with the state of Ohio
- Obtain insurance coverage that meets Ohio state requirements

Getting an Ohio Motorcycle License / Endorsement
According to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, in addition to meeting the requirements necessary to obtain a regular driver’s license, individuals must hold a valid motorcycle or motor scooter license or endorsement to operate a motorcycle.

Motorcycle Education & Training in Ohio
Motorcyclists should sign up for a motorcycle safety course. In Ohio, it is not mandatory to complete a motorcycle safety course to obtain a motorcycle license unless you are under the age of 18.
