Operating a Motorcycle in Missouri
In order to operate a motorcycle in the state of Missouri you must:
- Meet the state’s minimum age requirement
- Obtain a Missouri motorcycle license or license endorsement (you may also need to obtain a motorcycle instruction permit)
- Register your motorcycle with the state of Missouri
- Obtain insurance coverage that meets Missouri state requirements

Getting a Missouri Motorcycle License / Endorsement
According to the Missouri Department of Revenue, in addition to meeting the requirements necessary to obtain a regular driver’s license, individuals must apply for a Class M “Motorcycle Only” license or have a Class M motorcycle license endorsement added to their existing license to operate a motorcycle.

Motorcycle Education & Training in Missouri
Motorcyclists should sign up for a motorcycle safety course. In Missouri, it is not mandatory to complete a motorcycle safety course to obtain a Missouri Class M motorcycle license or license endorsement, unless you are under the age of 16.
