Operating a Motorcycle in Georgia

To legally operate a motorcycle in Georgia all riders must:

  • Meet the state’s minimum age requirement
  • Obtain a Georgia Class M motorcycle license (you may also need to obtain Class MP Instructional Permit)
  • Register your motorcycle with the state of Georgia
  • Obtain insurance coverage that meets Georgia state requirements

Getting a Georgia Motorcycle Endorsement

According to the Georgia Department of Driver Services, in addition to meeting the requirements necessary to obtain a regular driver’s license, individuals must apply for a Class M motorcycle license or Class MP Instructional Permit to operate a motorcycle.

Motorcycle Education & Training in Georgia

Motorcyclists should sign up for a motorcycle safety course. In Georgia, it is not mandatory to complete a motorcycle safety course to obtain a Georgia motorcycle license.
