Operating a Motorcycle in West Virginia

In order to operate a motorcycle in the state of West Virginia you must:

  • Meet the state’s minimum age requirement
  • Obtain an West Virginia motorcycle license or license endorsement (you may also need to obtain a motorcycle instruction permit)
  • Register your motorcycle with the state of West Virginia
  • Obtain insurance coverage that meets West Virginia state requirements

Getting a West Virginia Motorcycle License Endorsement

According to the West Virginia Transportation Department Division of Motor Vehicles, in addition to meeting the requirements necessary to obtain a regular driver’s license, individuals must apply for a motorcycle license endorsement to operate a motorcycle.
